Ever since smartphones started dominating the world, people across the globe have been sceptical about how trustworthy they actually are.

The growing use of new technology and social media platforms has not just amazed the world but also planted doubts in the back of everyone’s mind.

A frequent thought that often enters my head when my smartphone knows my location is, ‘How does my phone know that?’

It is a question that can be easily answered when looking through my settings. Our privacy is not as private as we think!

Last month, Spotify added a new privacy policy to their terms and conditions and caused uproar with their latest update.

Users were informed when opening the app of the new policy that lets the music site access photos, contacts and more.

However, the company has since spoken out in a blog named ‘sorry’ to explain the new privacy settings and how personal data will be used.

Daniel Ek, founder of Spotify, said: “We will ask for your express permission before accessing any of this data – and we will only use it for specific purposes that will allow you to customise your Spotify experience.”

This wasn’t the first privacy scare this year, after the awaited release of Windows 10 came with unexpected features including, access to Wi-Fi passwords, physical locations and contacts.

Microsoft was quick to respond recommending users change their privacy settings to default to prevent any information being shared.

The main purpose of these updates in the technology world is to increase awareness of each and every customer so there personal experience is enjoyable.

But with all the mixed news about each service, there is no wonder everyone is starting to panic about what is private on their phone.
