Last Friday afternoon, staff from six housing associations in our region took part in an Olympic inspired sports challenge at the Riverside Sports Pavilion in Chester-le-Street.

Despite the rain, everybody turned out in good spirits to raise money for local charities the Foundation of Light, the Tony Blair Sports Foundation and Daisy Chain.

The first event of its kind, named ‘The Housing Community Games’, was designed to build on the buzz left by the Olympics and promote health and well being, as well as developing existing relationships between the various groups.

Teams from Livin, The Vela Group, Cestria Community Housing, Fabrick, North Star Housing and Derwentside Homes took part in a variety of events including the typical 100m race as well as unusual events like a director’s three-legged race, a sack race and a chief executive’s egg and spoon race.

After weeks of preparation Team Livin were the overall winners with and were presented with a trophy and bragging rights at the end of the day.

Our account manager Beth went down at the end of the day to see the winners presented with their trophy and had her photograph taken with double Commonwealth champion and guest speaker Craig Heap.

Despite the weather, it seems like a good day was had by all. Congratulations to the winners and to all of the teams who took part!
